Question about brushes

Okay, now I know your supposed to use a wire wig brush on AG hair, but would a little plastic brush be okay? I don't use it very often, only for little touch ups on Felicity, and it has never been used on human hair (I heard that was bad). My question is is it okay for me to keep using the plastic brush or will that damage AG hair? We don't have a wire brush around so I would have to go buy one.

I would buy the wire brush.I used one that looked like the wire one but had plastic bristles and it really made the dolls hair more tangled.I think maybe because the bristles on are thinner on the wire brush compared to the plastic one.I only use a wig brush now that I bought from AG and have noticed a difference on my other dolls. If you can not get a wire wig brush I recomend getting a wire brush without any plastic. I think the plastic causes the hair to become more tangled also, the plastic seems to cause some sort of static electricity. it's kind of like when you use the plastic brishes that come with Barbies. all of my barbies have hair that looks horrendous.

If you are having trouble finding a wig brush, try looking in the pet department or in a big pet supply store. You are looking for one with wires set into a rubber base. The rubber base is important as it will allow the wires to slip rather than tearing out or breaking the hair.

Modacrylic wigs do not grow out...

I just recently bought the AG hairbrush. I'm glad I did. It makes a huge difference in the doll's hair.

I have two old AG doll hairbrushes. I see AG has changed the hairbrush design. The old ones (from the 80's) have metal tines that have a rounded tip, not a ball end. The tines promptly got loose in the rubber base and have an annoying tendency to push in so the hairbrush is almost useless. Plus, the metal tips seem to make the hair frizzy. I can't believe what a difference ball-end tips make. So if you buy a brush, make sure the brush has ball ends.

I agree. I think you should get the wire brush. even if it doesn't ruin her hair it might in the future. and also I think you should get the brush just to be on the safe side.

Definitely get a wire wig brush. Any plastic at all will make the doll hair get dry, brittle & matted. You've invested good money in your doll so a bit extra to keep the hair nice is worth it.

A wire wig dog brush will work just as well as the american girl wig brushes. Four Paws makes a neat one & it's slightly larger which makes it easier to hold. It's called Silver Touch #PB 560. That's the one we use. You can also lightly mist the hair with water being careful not to get water in the dolls eyes.

But next time you place an order, you can always add a brush. We often add some little item just so we can get the order total close to the next higher level.

Okay, thank you all so much for the expert advice! I remembered hearing something about wire and plastic brushes, thanks for clearing that up. I will probably end up making a trip to a pet store this week to get a wire brush [img]smile.gif[/img]
